Parrilla Claims Costa Rica Open Title as IRT Season Gets Underway
The road to the 2026–27 IRT season officially began in Costa Rica.
The Costa Rica Open SAT-600 brought a strong international field together for the first IRT satellite event of the new season, with several established professionals making the trip, including Andrés Acuña, Rodrigo Montoya, Jhonatan Flores, Erick Trujillo, Thomas Carter, Javier Mar, Diego Gastelum, and Andree Parrilla.
When the weekend was over, it was Andree Parrilla standing on top.
Parrilla battled his way through the field to set up a championship match against former World No. 1 Rodrigo Montoya. With the first title of the new season on the line, Parrilla delivered, defeating Montoya 15–12, 15–11 to capture the Costa Rica Open championship.
The victory gives Parrilla an early statement to begin the year and adds another storyline to watch as the IRT’s top players prepare for the start of the Tier 1 season.
The Road to SoCal Continues
The Costa Rica Open may have produced the first champion of the new season, but the IRT satellite schedule is just getting started.
Two more SAT events are coming up before the Tour heads to California:
DMV Invitational
September 3–6
Millersville, Maryland
Carl Myers Garden City Open
September 25-27
Garden City, Kansas
These satellite events will give players additional opportunities to compete, build momentum and make an early statement before the first Tier 1 event of the season.
Then, all eyes turn to Fullerton, California.
The SoCal Open, October 1–4, will mark the first Tier 1 professional stop of the 2026–27 IRT season and the first opportunity for the full field to make its mark on the new season.
Parrilla has made the first statement.
Who makes the next one?
