Track Town Open Recap: Kane Waselenchuk Claims the Title in Eugene
The Track Town Open in Eugene, Oregon was a thrilling showcase of world-class racquetball, featuring upsets, comebacks, and electrifying performances from the game’s biggest names.
Kane’s Comeback
The finals saw Kane Waselenchuk take on Jake Bredenbeck in a matchup that lived up to the hype. After dropping the first game 11–15 and trailing 11–1 early, Kane unleashed one of the most dominant stretches of play we’ve seen in years.
He went on a 40-to-4 scoring run, winning the next two games 15–2 and 11–2 to seal the victory. Kane’s serving precision and shot-making brilliance were on full display, reminding fans why he is considered the sport’s all-time great.
This was also a rematch of their last encounter in Chicago, where Kane was forced to forfeit due to injury, giving Jake the win. This time, Kane left no doubt with a commanding finish.
Natera Stuns Acuña in the Quarters
One of the tournament’s biggest storylines was Alan Natera’s upset over Andres Acuña in the quarterfinals. Acuña entered the event riding high after the biggest win of his career—defeating Kane in the Denver final earlier this season.
But in Eugene, it was Natera’s moment. After saving two game points, Alan forced a tiebreaker and powered through to take it 11–4. This victory was especially meaningful as Natera continues his comeback from surgery earlier this summer, marking a huge step forward in his return to form.
