Born on September 11, 1995, in San José, Costa Rica, Andrés Acuña has become a prominent figure in international racquetball. He entered the professional scene at the 16th US Open in Minneapolis, Minnesota, on October 9, 2011, at just 16 years and 27 days old. Over 13 seasons, Acuña has compiled a career win-loss record of 73-54, reflecting a winning percentage of 57.5%. His consistent performance led to a career-high year-end ranking of #6 in 2024.
Standing at 5’8″ and weighing 185 pounds, Acuña is known for his agility and strategic play. Representing Gearbox as his racquet sponsor and supported by Team Zurek, Dovetail, and the Costa Rica Olympic Committee, he has been a formidable competitor on the court. A significant milestone in his career was winning the gold medal at The World Games 2022 in Birmingham, Alabama, marking the first time a Costa Rican athlete achieved this feat.
