Moscoso Wins Wild Minnesota KWM Hall of Fame Final in Stunning Comeback
The Minnesota KWM Hall of Fame Tournament once again delivered one of the most exciting stops of the International Racquetball Tour season. With fast courts at the University of Minnesota, elite power servers took advantage of the conditions and produced a weekend filled with big upsets, breakout performances, and one of the most dramatic finals in recent memory.
Power Servers Dominate the Weekend
As predicted before the event began, the fast courts in Minneapolis rewarded aggressive serving and attacking play. Every one of the semifinalists relied heavily on strong drive serves and first-strike offense to reach the final rounds.
The result was a tournament defined by short rallies, high pressure serving, and explosive shot making.
Flores Continues His Breakout Performance
One of the biggest stories of the weekend was the continued rise of Jhonatan Flores.
Fresh off his first Satellite event victory at the Pelham Tournament of Champions in Portland, Flores carried his momentum into Minnesota with two impressive wins.
In the Round of 16, Flores stunned Andree Parrilla with a dominant 15-1, 15-4 victory, showcasing exceptional ball striking and composure.
He followed that performance with another statement win over Jake Bredenbeck in the quarterfinals 15-8, 15-12, earning a place in the semifinals.
Flores eventually ran into Kane Waselenchuk, where the young Bolivian pushed the legend to the brink in game one. At 14–14, Kane delivered a perfectly flat roll-out to take the game before pulling away in game two 15-1 to secure his place in the finals.
Despite the loss, Flores’ performance further cemented his reputation as one of the rising threats on tour.
Montoya Scores a Major Upset
Another highlight of the tournament came from Rodrigo Montoya, who scored a significant upset over #3 ranked Andres Acuna.
Montoya’s serve proved to be the difference, allowing him to dictate play and keep Acuna from settling into rallies. Montoya controlled the match from start to finish, winning 15-7, 15-5.
One of the Craziest Finals in Recent Memory
The championship match between Kane Waselenchuk and Conrrado Moscoso will go down as one of the most dramatic finals of the season.
Kane opened the match with complete dominance.
Serving aggressively and controlling every rally, Kane won the first game 15-0, with Moscoso reaching the service box only two times during the entire game.
It appeared the match might end quickly.
But Moscoso showed incredible resilience.
Regrouping after the shutout, he raised his level in the second game and forced longer rallies, eventually winning 15-9 to push the match to a tiebreaker.
With momentum on his side, Moscoso stayed aggressive in the breaker and closed out the match 11-7, completing an incredible comeback victory.
Moscoso Extends Historic Run
With the victory, Conrrado Moscoso has now won four consecutive IRT tour stops, defeating Kane Waselenchuk in three of those finals.
His ability to recover mentally after losing the first game 15-0 demonstrated the composure and toughness that has fueled his current run at the top of the tour.
Another Classic Minnesota Event
The Minnesota Hall of Fame event continues to deliver memorable moments for players and fans alike. Between the historic Hall of Fame banquet, the electric atmosphere at the University of Minnesota, and the high level of competition, the tournament once again proved why it is one of the most respected stops on the IRT calendar.
With Moscoso’s winning streak continuing and new challengers emerging, the race at the top of the tour is heating up as the season moves forward.
