SoCal Open Preview: A Loaded Draw Sets the Stage for a Massive Tournament in Fullerton
The IRT returns to Southern California this week for one of the most anticipated events of the extended season — the SoCal Open, held in Fullerton, CA, December 4–7. With the entire Top 11 in the world in attendance and storylines stacked top to bottom, this tournament is set to be an explosive finish to 2025’s Tier 1 slate.
A Look Back: Last Year’s Wild Run in Canoga Park
Last year’s SoCal Open brought one of the most memorable runs in recent IRT history. Jordy Alonso shocked the sport with a breakout performance, defeating Kane Waselenchuk, Robert Collins, and Rodrigo Montoya on his way to the finals. Ultimately, it was Conrrado Moscoso who claimed the title in Canoga Park, securing the championship and adding to his West Coast dominance.
This year, all eyes return to Moscoso — and the field he’ll have to get through.
This Year: The Draw Is Absolutely Loaded
For the first time this season, all top 11 IRT professionals are in the same draw. That means fans can expect early-round fireworks, heavyweight quarterfinals, and possibly the most competitive Tier 1 bracket of the year.
Kane Waselenchuk Enters as the #1 Seed
The 14-time World Champion comes into Fullerton as the top seed, hungry for another title and surrounded by challengers eager to take their shot.
Moscoso Climbs to #4 — and a Golden State Rematch Looms
Fresh off winning the Golden State Open, Conrrado Moscoso jumps to #4 in the world. If the seeds hold, he will face Rodrigo Montoya in the quarterfinals — a rematch of their epic, come-from-behind tiebreaker battle in Pleasanton just weeks ago.
Expect fireworks.
Acuna vs. Bredenbeck: A Semi-Final Collision Course
Two of the most in-form players of the year —
- Andrés Acuña (#2), fresh off winning World Singles and World Doubles,
- Jake Bredenbeck (#3), consistently deep in every major draw
are projected to meet in the semifinals. But with three straight tournaments producing three different champions, nothing is guaranteed. The field is simply too deep. Upsets are inevitable.
